What You Should Know About Quick Weight Loss Plans and Solutions

Friday, February 27th, 2009

In a society that is completely hung up on time and wants everything right now, it comes as no surprise that people are constantly seeking out quick weight loss solutions.

Of course, where there is a market, there will be a product, and quick weight loss products are no exception. There are ads and commercials everywhere we turn telling us just how quick and easy a certain weight loss plan is. The difficult thing to determine is whether there is any truth to these claims.

Most medical professionals will tell you that healthy weight loss takes time and is a slow process. Quick weight loss plans usually involve ingesting dangerous chemicals or relying on a certain food or food type for all of your nutrition. Usually when you use these plans, you might be initially successful, but you will quickly gain back what you lost once you begin eating normally again. Dieting by changing your overall eating habits may take more time, but is much safer and more effective.

Diet Pills For Fast Weight Loss

One of the most common resources for quick weight loss is over the counter diet pills. Most pills on the market have not been researched or approved by the Food and Drug Administration and should be used with extreme caution. Many times these pills contain chemicals that are stimulants, which can cause adverse reactions in many people.

The most common chemical in these pills is caffeine, which can produce effects like jitteriness and heart palpitations in high doses.

Other diet pills which claim quick weight loss results are touted to be herbal. These are no more safe or effective than those with chemicals. Some of them do absolutely nothing, while others work to a point, but have dangerous side effects.

If you feel your weight is out of control to a point that you need a diet pill to see results, your best bet is to speak with your doctor and find a prescription alternative which is medically supervised.

Fad Diets For Fast Weight Loss

Every talk show and magazine will feature the current fad diet for quick weight loss. Many people fall for these diet scams because of the claims of a celebrity who used it successfully. Usually these plans are extremely unhealthy and can cause long term damage to your body and its organs.

Just because your favorite actress lost twenty pounds in a few weeks for her upcoming role does not mean that the process was healthy or safe.

Understanding that rapid weight loss is not the best option is the most important point in learning how to properly lose weight.

Eating healthy foods in moderation and getting plenty of exercise is the best way to get the pounds off and keep them off. If you feel that this method is not working for you, consult with your doctor about other weight loss supplements and options, such as surgery, that may be appropriate for your own personal circumstances.

It is always best to see your doctor first before starting any type of diet program for a complete check up.

How I Stopped My Hair Loss and Re Grew My Hair

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Hair loss is a part of life for many of us. We often wonder, once the hair loss process has began will be able to stop it, and will we ever get our hair back. In woman, this can be a lot more embarrassing, stressful and difficult to deal with than in men, simply due to the fact that hair loss in men is generally accepted. For women, most of us see our hair as our crowning beauty. I have often heard it said that “a woman’s hair is the beauty of her face.” Personally, I don’t think that this is necessarily true. In men, the main reasons for hair loss are hereditary and age. In women, there can be a bit more varying reasons, such as, stress, age, menopause and child birth, to name a few.

The scientific reason behind hair loss in both men and woman is a chemical in our bodies called (Dihydrotestoterone) DHT. DHT is a naturally occurring chemical used elsewhere in the body, but it actually damages the hair follicles and causes them to become less efficient at getting the nutrients they need. Also as we age, our blood vessels become narrower and more clogged, which makes it even more difficult for the follicles. There are many products on the market today, which are said to prevent hair loss and re grow hair in men and women. If you are experiencing, or have experienced hair loss, then you know that many of these products do not live up to the hype!

Let me share a personal story with you. I am a mother of two. My children’s ages are 5 years and 1 year. Six weeks after my eldest child was born, I noticed that I was loosing my hair. I became frantic. It was not just falling out sparingly; it was coming out in clumps. The more I combed, the more it came out…from all over my head! I did not know what to do. I was forced to come to the realization that this process, whatever it was, had began. Either I deal with this now, or, not comb my hair for a while and pretend it wasn’t happening, but I knew that whenever I started to comb again, I would be pulling out bigger and bigger clumps of hair. I decided what the heck! The sooner I get it all out, the sooner I can decide what to do about what’s left. After nearly a week of this, it finally stopped. Yep! I was practically bald. There were strands hair on the crown of my head and my sides looked as if they had been shaved as far back as behind my ears. The lower back of my head came through this ordeal pretty good though. Not much missing there. Yes, you guessed it. Wigs and caps became by best friends for the next few months. Why that long, you might ask. Well, once my shedding had stopped, I started to try all sorts of different products. I tried sprays, shampoos, pills, jells, you name it, I tried it. None of them worked like they promised. They all helped a bit, but they didn’t fully re grow my hair. One day a friend referred me to this product called Provillus. I was already frustrated with all the other products and had decided to accept my condition. After much back and forth with my friend, I decided to try this one last product. If this didn’t work, then that would be it.

After about one month of taking this product, I could see the little feathery hairs coming along the sides of my head. I knew then, that I had finally found a product that lived up to its promises. In about three six months, I had re grown my hair…all of it. Now I could throw away the wigs and the caps. Some of them were really cute though!

Then came baby #2…Here we go again. Yes Provillus was there to see me though. Again it worked like a charm. I am quite sure that, had I taken it immediately after child birth, I would not have lost my hair a second time, but I couldn’t because I was breast feeding my new born and didn’t want to take any unnecessary risk.

Let me be clear. Saying that it happened a second time has nothing to do with the product itself. It has to do with me. That is apart of the process that my body goes through after the stress of child birth and yes, it will continue to happen to me after each child birth. However, now I have found a solution that I can count on.

Provillus is a new FDA approved product that has been on the market for less than five years and is rated #1 in hair loss prevention and hair re growth. I can personally attest to that. It is a supplement that blocks the DHT in the body from causing hair loss. The more DHT in our bodies, (this obviously increases in me after child birth) the greater our risk is of hair loss. Provillus was created by the Ultra Herbal Company and is a natural treatment for men and women suffering from hair loss. Provillus is guaranteed to stop hair loss and re grow hair.

As a female, I have experienced hair loss due to child birth twice. Generally, I have a full head of thick hair. About 6 weeks after giving birth my hair begin to fall out. I go from having a full head of hair to being able to see my scalp through my hair. Provillus has ALWAYS restored my hair. Get you FREE Trial of Provillus today. visit:www.haircomes.com

How Do I Get Out Of A Weight Loss Plateau – Problem And Solution No. 1

Friday, February 27th, 2009

If you are asking “how do I get our of a weight loss plateau?” there are more than one answer. The reason is that there can be more than one reason why you have reached a weight loss plateau. In this article I am going to discuss problem no. 1 and the solution to it. Reading this article even before you reach a plateau can prevent you from reaching it.

1. Problem no. 1 – too few calories:

When you are trying to lose weight, it is necessary to reduce your calorie intake. Unfortunately exactly that can be the reason why you have reached a weight loss plateau.

Our bodies do not like loosing weight and is programmed to try and keep your weight steady or to even increase your weight. So, in response to you eating fewer calories a day, your body slows down your metabolism and you need fewer calories a day to keep your body functioning.

Another problem is that even though your body needs fewer calories to function properly, you still get hungry as your body is trying to encourage you to eat more. This again can make you stop losing weight.

2. OK, so now you sit with this problem:

* If you want to lose weight, you have to cut down on your calorie intake per day

* In response to the fewer calories you are eating a day your body has slowed down your metabolism.

3. Solution to problem no. 1 – you have to eat a little more:

Yes, you have read that right. You have to convince your body there is not a famine on the way so there is no need to conserve energy for vital bodily functions. It is true that this may even cause you to gain a little weight at first, but if you keep your calorie intake at no more than 500 to 700 hundred calories below your daily needs, the weight loss will start again.

4. There is a formula that you can use to find out how many calories you need per day:

i) Women:

Body weight in pounds divided by 2.2 X 23 will give you the amount of calories your body needs to maintain your present weight. So if you weigh say, 176 pounds you will need 80 X 23 = 1840 calories (kilo calories, but everyone simply calls it calories) to maintain your present weight. If you want to lose weight and prevent yourself from reaching a plateau, you should eat about 1340 calories a day.

ii) Men:

Body weight in pounds divided by 2.2 X 24 will give you the amount of calories your body needs to maintain its present weight. So if you weigh say, 209 pounds you will need 95 X 24 = 2280 calories (kilocalories, but everyone simply says calories) per day to maintain your present weight. So, if you want to lose weight without reaching a plateau, you need to eat about 1780 calories a day.

5. Wow! This sounds complicated

It is true that it is difficult and you have to keep track of your eating all the time. Fortunately there is a program that does all this for you. Fat Loss 4 Idiots uses a concept of calorie shifting to prevent your body from slowing down your metabolism and to keep your bodies fat burning hormones working.

Can A Weight Loss Program Really Help You Lose Weight?

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Weight loss is an important concern in our society. There is a high rate of obesity and health is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Losing weight takes dedication and commitment and choosing a weight loss program should be taken very seriously.

There are a wide range of diet plans to choose from, so finding on that suits your own tastes shouldn’t be too difficult. Look over various fat burning programs and narrow down the list to a select few before making a final choice.

If you have any health concerns, one of the most important steps in starting on your quest to reduce your weight is to consult with your doctor. They are the most knowledgeable person to speak with and can help you decide just which program will work best for you. When you go, take the list of the plans you are interested in and share your preferences with them to help find just the right fit.

Types Of Weight Loss Programs

The most popular types are the commercial programs that are regularly advertised on TV and in magazines. Usually, there is a monthly fee to participate in the program and you may be asked to attend meetings, purchase additional diet products, or purchase your meals through their program. Many times people are successful on these diets, however, keeping the weight off is sometimes not so simple.

Other people would rather handle their fat burning program on their own. If you would rather go this route, you can purchase books, visit websites for diet plan reviews, or read magazine articles to find out how a diet works and just try the plan yourself. People who go this route may need motivation and self-discipline, as some programs provide little individual support and encouragement to help you stick with the plan.

The last choice for dieters would be a clinical weight loss program. Usually these are supervised by a medical professional of some sort. These plans may include diet plans, medical advice, counseling, and prescription weight loss medications.

These plans are generally safer than any other diet choice, as you would be under constant doctor supervision. These programs are your best bet if you have a large amount of weight to lose or if you have medical conditions that should be closely monitored during your weight loss efforts.

Points To Remember About Weight Loss Programs

Safe and permanent weight loss does not happen overnight. A program that promises a quick fix for your weight problem is likely a scam or unsafe. Your doctor knows your needs better than any diet guru, so respect their opinion when choosing a fat loss plan. Choose a diet plan that you can stick with, a diet that is hard to follow will rarely result in the weight loss you want.

Exercise is always a key element in losing weight, so if a diet claims that you do not need to exercise, you can best assume that it will not really work. By keeping these points in mind and consulting with your physician, you can lose the weight you want with a little work.

How Do I Get Out of a Weight Loss Plateau – Problem and Solution No. 2

Friday, February 27th, 2009

When you ask the question “how do I get our of a weight loss plateau?” there can be more than one answer, depending on what the reason for the problem is. In this article I am going to look at problem no. 2, the loss of muscle, and the solution to it.

1. Problem no. 2 – loss of lean body mass (loss of muscles)

Loss of lean body mass can be one of the most important reasons why you have reached a plateau. Muscles use more energy than fat even when you are sleeping. So it makes sense that if you lose muscle, your metabolic rate goes down and weight loss becomes even more difficult. This is especially a very great danger with fad diets.

Fad diets do not supply your body with the nutrients it needs to maintain a healthy muscle structure and as a result you lose lean body mass. If you eat too little calories a day, you will be burning more muscle than fat.

A hidden part of problem no. 2 is also that on a fad diet you lose a lot of water when you start on it. This, of course, means that it is not true weight loss and as soon as you eat normally again, the water comes back and so does the weight. It also means that once you have lost as much water as your body is going to allow you to lose, the fake weight loss from water will stop and it will appear as if you have reached a plateau.

A lack of other nutrients such as vitamins and minerals because of a fad diet may also keep your body from maintaining healthy muscles and can also cause the loss of lean body mass.

2. Solution to problem no. 2 – the loss of lean body mass (loss of muscles)

You have to eat enough. In other words you have to take care that you combine your exercise routine with a fully nourished body. This will not happen on a fad diet such as the cabbage soup diet. This is one very important way of identifying a fad diet. If a diet says you are not allowed to exercise while on it, you can be pretty sure that it is a fad diet. A diet does not have to encourage exercise, many will not as lots of people do not like doing exercise, but it must not preclude it.

It is also a good idea to take a good nutritional supplement when you are trying to lose weight. Because you are eating less than normal, the possibility always exists that you are not getting all the nutrition you need, however good your diet may be.

3. Conclusion:

You can reach a weight loss plateau if you are not eating enough and exercising too much. So, it is a good idea to prevent a weight loss plateau before you even reach it by eating sensibly and exercising correctly. It is also clear that it will be very difficult to get out of your weight loss plateau by eating even less. By eating correctly it may even happen that you will initially gain a little weight, but as soon as your body adjusts, the weight loss will start again without reaching a plateau. Keep at it and you will have success!

The good news for you is that there is a program that uses a concept of calorie shifting to prevent your body from slowing down your metabolism. This of course prevents you from reaching a plateau.

The New Food Pyramid

Friday, February 27th, 2009

We learned about the food pyramid in school, in the form of a diagram showing a pyramid with little images of milk jugs and loaves of bread floating about. It told us how many servings of each food group we needed to eat each day for a balanced diet, usually presented with little drawing of loaves of bread and glass bottles of milk. Most of us wondered how in the world we’d ever consume that many helpings of fruit and vegetables each day (those little drawings of brussel sprouts weren’t exactly appetizing), but somehow we made it through with reasonable health. And yet, we’re still scouring the bookstores and the internet for answers, for the elusive golden goose of dieting that will set us free from calorie counting forever.

This model is still around, lingering on some websites and diet materials, and it is correct in the fact that it results in a balanced diet to a large degree. But we’ve learned that measuring our calorie intake with “helpings” or “servings,” even when the size of those helpings and servings is defined, is too imprecise and talks around the central point of it all. The good news is that there is a new way of defining the nutrition our body requires. It is a balance between proteins, complex carbohydrates and essential fats. The key word is balance, which means that if you consume too much of one at the exclusion of another – even if the source is of extremely high quality, like lean turkey breast meat for protein – you will pay a negative consequence in terms of your body’s response. Too much protein and too few carbohydrates, and you will become fatigued. Too little fat –the good kind – and your heart health is compromised and your bio-chemistry is thrown off track. Too little protein and you won’t be replacing dead cells and you’ll be less able to repair tissue and grow new lean mass.

The context within which this food balancing act is viewed has evolved since the old pyramid days. The big thing now, as proven by the latest science, is that we need to strive to accelerate our metabolism before we will get on top of the weight control issue. Because if we can’t burn all the calories we put into our bodies, and if our bodies adapt to a reduction in calorie consumption by clinging to its fat reserves (which is precisely what happens), we are doomed to a never-ending cycle of dieting and weight gain. The only way out is to crank up our metabolism to a point where dieting is no longer required because our bodies naturally burn off what we put into it. And to do that, nutrition, meal frequency and an exercise program that burns off energy while building lean mass is required.

The bottom line conclusion is this: losing weight is one thing… shifting your metabolism into a higher gear is another. You can lose weight without increasing your metabolism, but this is your ticket to a never-ending cycle of dieting, because unless you do alter your metabolism, you’ll gain that weight right back. Until you teach your body to burn more calories per day, and to do it more efficiently, those breakeven numbers and calorie minimum thresholds will never change, you’ll always be either dieting or gaining weight.

Holistic Health and Achieving Whole Body Balance

Friday, February 27th, 2009

The use of alternative and complimentary medicine in the United States was found in more than 50% of adults and children, according to statistics from 2007. A significantly higher acceptance is found overseas. When asking yourself why so many people are turning to alternative medicine, you find a very simple answer. More of the population are seeking health of both body and mind, and are finding it through holistic and/or alternative sources.

What Is The Holistic Approach?

Rather than using a particular type of treatment, a method of treatment is used with holistic health. This approach takes into consideration all aspects of your health, instead of treating only the symptoms physically residing in your body. The aspects taken into account are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

If you take a cold for example, a traditional medical practitioner would treat each symptom separately. They would likely tell you to take something for fever, something else for sinus issues and yet another as a cough suppressant.

A holistic practitioner may instead look at the causes for your decreased immune system. Stress, poor diet, compromised hormone or metabolic systems, negative emotions, limiting thought patterns, past trauma and so on. They look at your entire body/mind connection to determine what is causing the illness and treat the cause. Likewise, they may look to more natural remedies to alleviate or relieve your symptoms.

The goal of the holistic approach is not just overall physical well-being but also emotional, mental and spiritual well being too. They’re all intricately linked to your general well being and whole body/mind balance.

Therapies And Modalities For Whole Body/Mind Balance

There are many varieties of therapies and approaches to treatment when you consider the many holistic practitioners and how they treat their patients. Within the world of traditional medicine you will find that an osteopathic physician or a DO, rather than an MD, takes a whole body approach to treatment where an MD does not, although both are board certified and provide the same level of care.

Beyond traditional medicine, there are a number of alternative therapies or therapies which come from eastern traditions. For example:

• Energy Psychology

• Hypnosis

• Mindfulness Meditation

• Emotional Freedom Technique

• Reiki

• Massage

• Touch Therapy

• Acupuncture

• Chiropractic

• Ayurveda

• Biofeedback

• Naturopathy

Choosing the type of treatment you decide to use may have somewhat of a dependency on your approaches to healthcare as well as your current physician. More doctors have begun to accept other means of healthcare such as massage, Reiki or hypnosis, and in most cases have a few recommendations about potential choice for therapists. It may be of benefit to you to consider a combination of therapies for a whole body/mind approach, depending on what various issues you are dealing with. If you are receiving chiropractic care as well as acupuncture, in order to assist with your nutritional balance you may also want to see a naturopath.

If you have suffered from illnesses such as depression, fatigue, insomnia or digestive issues you may have been prescribed a variety of pharmaceuticals, only to find they did not solve the problem. Depression for example, can be caused by many issues such as food allergies, poor or lack of sleep or a hormonal imbalance. If treated by looking at the whole person, and not simply treating one of the issues, your chances of relieving the issue all together is a more likely occurrence.

Statistics don’t lie. With more than 50% of Americans turning towards alternative care, the realization is being made that the approach of holistic health is leading to a far better outlook on health and happiness than traditional medicine. People are leaving the ‘take a pill to treat a symptom’ approach of traditional medicine, and embracing the benefits of balance of whole body/mind health.

How Much Curcumin Should You Use For Heart Health?

Friday, February 27th, 2009

The question of how much curcumin should you use for heart health, may be a little difficult to answer. The reason is this. The compound, which is the active substance in turmeric, has low bioavailability.

As it passes through the stomach it is degraded and changed, becoming inactive. Studies have shown that a person would need to consume 10,000mg of turmeric in order to increase blood serum levels of curcumin. In other words, it is a highly unstable substance, greatly affected by stomach acid and other digestive acids that cause it to link to other substances. The linkage prevents it from passing through the intestinal walls and entering the bloodstream.

Numerous studies have shown that there are many health benefits associated with curcumin, but it must be bio-available, in order to provide those benefits. When it comes to human hearts, the benefits are reducing the risk of clots, preventing heart failure and repairing damage that has already occurred. So, supplementation is worthwhile, if we can determine the right dosage. Here are a few questions that should help us do that.

How much curcumin should you use for heart health if you are eating the herb or curry sauce? There are no studies to support that this might be effective. There is some anecdotal evidence that eating curry twice a year or more improves cognitive function in the elderly. Getting 10,000 mgs a day would be difficult, if not impossible. The typical curry recipe calls for a half teaspoon of turmeric. One would need two teaspoons to come close to 10,000mg.

How much curcumin should you use for heart health if you are taking a single ingredient supplement? Single ingredient supplements of this nature are not beneficial. The high doses that would be required cause indigestion and increase the risk of gallbladder disease or worsen the symptoms, if it is already present. In animals, high doses have been shown to negatively affect the liver. It is safe, in reasonable amounts, but as with most plant compounds, it is possible to go overboard.

How much curcumin should you use for heart health, if you are taking a well-designed supplement? Enteric coatings protect turmeric from digestive acids. Studies have shown that piperine, an extract from black pepper, increases the bioavailability of curcumin by 2000%. In other words, 50mg combined with piperine and an enteric coating would increase blood serum levels by as much as 10,000mg of straight turmeric.

There is no risk of liver or gallbladder damage and no risk of indigestion with a 50mg supplement. The most advanced supplements include a variety of different plant extracts, all designed to work together efficiently to protect the cells of the body from the effects of time.

There are specialty supplements designed for those people that are over the age of 40. These supplements can provide a “spring cleaning”, so to speak, for the circulatory system. So, now we know how much curcumin should you use for heart health. If properly designed, 50mg per day is effective.

Health Benefits of Curcumin and Turmeric

Friday, February 27th, 2009

If the health benefits of curcumin that have been seen in laboratory animals can be duplicated in people and if people start taking it, along with other botanical extracts with similar properties, we may start to see the incidences of cancer and heart disease start to fall.

Scientific studies have been ongoing since 2004, but the spicy plant called turmeric has been used since ancient times to treat a variety of different ailments, including arthritis, digestive disorders and infections. In the later half of the 20th century, researchers found that the compound within turmeric having pharmacological activity is curcumin.

Researchers have been looking at a variety of different antioxidants that naturally occur in plants, because antioxidants scavenge free radicals. Free radical damage, within the cells, causes mutations that can lead to cancer.

They are also investigating the health benefits of curcumin as a natural anti-inflammatory, because chronic inflammation plays a role in cancer development, heart disease and many other age-related diseases. The drugs that we have are ineffective against these kinds of diseases.

If we can learn to prevent free radical damage and chronic inflammation, we will start to see a healthier society. Those of us that are aware of these things are already doing everything within our power, in an effort to achieve that goal.

If you are looking for a single ingredient that does more than any other, you won’t find it. When you hear recommendations from cautious healthcare practitioners about eating a variety of different plant foods and drinking a variety of different beverages, they are saying that because they want you to have the benefit of the compounds found in the plants, but they are wary of suggestion supplementation.

But, eating curry or turmeric is not the best way to get the health benefits of curcumin. The impact that this compound has on cells is enormous. In laboratory studies, it has been shown to kill cancer cells, without causing damage to healthy cells. 16 separate studies have shown a reduction of cancer in animals that have been given a carcinogen.

In the bloodstream, it inhibits the accumulation of plaques in the arteries and the brain. These plaques are responsible for arterial diseases and Alzheimer’s. The problem is this. How do we get it into the bloodstream?

If you want the health benefits of curcumin, you need to choose a well designed supplement that includes an enteric coating and piperine, a compound present in black pepper. The enteric coating protects curcumin from digestive acids, while piperine enhances its bioavailability.

When turmeric is eaten, it is changed by digestive juices and very little gets into the bloodstream. This is true of many other nutrients including SAM-e and resveratrol.

The best supplements on the market contain SAM-e, resveratrol, piperine, turmeric and a wide range of other nutrients, including essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Regardless of healthy and varied your diet may be, it is not possible to get all of the beneficial nutrients found in the natural world, without supplementation. You can get the health benefits of curcumin and much more, if you choose the right supplement.
